about

This is a song about the aftermath of suicide. Nick, an old band mate of mine, struggled with mental illness, eventually taking his own life in 2013. The lyrics are inspired by words spoken at Nick's funeral and dedicated to his loving family and friends.

lyrics

You fought so hard against the darkness
In a battle no-one ever wins
You were so weary from the struggle
That burns within

You always saw the best in others
Only saw the worst within yourself
And in the end you had this feeling
You're better somewhere else

Why'd you have to leave my true love
Why won't you stay
Why'd you have to end it all this way

So many questions without answers
Too many nights of asking why
Oh how I miss your faults and failings
And alibis

Why'd you have to leave my true love
Why won't you stay
Why'd you have to end it all this way

I'd give anything for one more day with you
I'd give anything to see this journey through
I'd give anything to ease your pain
I'd give anything, anything, anything
To hold you once again
